Mae Rose Mary Steck (née Solomon)
71 years
May 2nd, 1950 – January 17th, 2022.

With fond memories and deep sadness, we announce the passing of Mae Steck, peacefully in the early morning of January 17th, 2022, with the comfort of her family by her side. Mae was the devoted wife of Pedro, her husband of 50 years, and the beloved mother of Christal (Marc Leahy), of Pedro (Ricki Horowitz), of Pamela (Daniel Paquette), and of Perola. She was the doting grandmother of Brigitte, Dominic, Raymond, Paschale, Matthew, Isabelle, and Alaya, upon whom she showered her deep affections as well as generous gifts of hand-made pyjamas, socks, and mittens. Born in Sudbury, the daughter of the late James and Bertha Solomon (née St-Georges), Mae is predeceased by her brothers George, Allen (Dianne), Paul, and Eric (late Nancy). She is survived by her brothers Roger (Anita) and Tony. Mae was loved by everyone who knew her and will be deeply missed by her extended family in Canada, Germany, and Brazil, as well as by her many friends.

Mae was a formidable woman who was known for her commitment to her faith, for her creativity, and for her unparalleled sharp wit, but most of all, for her great generosity of spirit. After working many years as a legal secretary, she continued her professional career and retired with the Canada Revenue Agency. A long-time member of Holy Redeemer Parish in Sudbury, Mae devoted herself to its various ministries and to the CWL. Having been a youth member, she remained committed to the Girl Guides of Canada throughout her adult life. Over the years, she also spent countless hours sewing and knitting for various charities. Mae impacted the lives of many with her true servant heart.

Our family is deeply grateful to the generous work of the Northeast Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North, her oncology and palliative care doctors, and especially to all the nurses from Bayshore who attended to her needs over the last 4 years.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish, 1887 Bancroft Drive, Sudbury, on Saturday, January 22nd, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northeast Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North or to the House of Kin are greatly appreciated.
