STOKES, Arthur

October 28, 1926 – May 6, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Art (Arthur) Stokes. Recently predeceased by
his beloved wife of 67 years, Lila (Rita) Stokes (Lowden). Father to Pat (Steve Smith), London Ontario,
Mike Stokes (Linda), Gravenhurst Ontario, Marian (Kevin Mulligan), Calgary Alberta, and Chris Stokes
(Donna), Sudbury, Ontario. Grandfather to Kim (Bernardo Tecpoyotl), Stacey, Christi (Scott Gardner),
Ted, Rebecca (Cameron Smart), Jon, Lucas and Kera (Dave Gleason). Great grandfather to James, Camille
and Lee. Art was born and raised in London, Ontario. He was the son of Harry and Kathleen Stokes.
Brother to John, Mel, and Eugene. Married in 1953, Art and Lila started their family in London and later
moved to Brampton. In 1974 they moved to Sudbury. He greatly enjoyed sharing his love of the
outdoors with his children, and later with his grandchildren. He always looked forward to his annual
hunting trip. Art and Lila enjoyed many years of camping and outdoor life. They travelled extensively,
always eager to learn about new countries and cultures. Art was a Toastmaster and was active in the
club for several decades. Art and Lila spent over 30 years volunteering at Sudbury’s Inner-City Home in
Sudbury, where he worked tirelessly until 2020. He regularly volunteered at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church
and was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus. Memorial services will be held for both Art
and Lila once it is safe for family to travel. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations be made directly to the Inner City Home of Sudbury. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ranger’s Cremation and Burial Services Ltd.
