42-year-old man shot by police in Hamilton dies in hospital, watchdog says

HAMILTON — Ontario's police watchdog says a 42-year-old man shot by police in Hamilton earlier this week has died in hospital.

The Special Investigations Unit says it continues to investigate the incident and has interviewed four officers identified as witnesses.

It says two other officers are considered the subject of the investigation.

The SIU previously said the incident began as officers responded to a domestic call Tuesday afternoon.

The agency says the officers found a person of interest in a car in a convenience store parking lot and approached the vehicle.

It says there was an "interaction," which ended with two officers firing shots that struck the man.

The man was critically hurt, and the SIU says he died from his injuries Wednesday afternoon.
