Eight Toronto schools found with at least one case of COVID-19 variant

TORONTO — Eight schools in Toronto now have at least one case of a more contagious COVID-19 variant.

In a letter to parents, Toronto Public Health says the discovery is not unexpected as the variants are known to be spreading across Ontario.

The health unit says affected students were sent home.

The unit also says it has followed up with close contacts and is recommending testing.

Of the schools, three are in the Toronto District School Board, three are in the Catholic board, and two are private.

Public health says everyone in a household should complete the daily screening tool for staff, visitors and all students before going to school.
