Hamilton police officer charged with sexual assault after watchdog investigates

A Hamilton constable has been charged with sexual assault following an investigation by the province's police watchdog.

The Special Investigations Unit says it was told in November that an officer was accused of sexually assaulting a man a day earlier.

The SIU says Const. Ryan Cole is now charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm.

It says he was arrested Wednesday and released under certain conditions, including that he not communicate or associate with any witnesses.

The agency says Cole is due in court on May 3.

No other details have been released.
