Highway 401 collision in Mississauga, Ont. leaves two dead, one in critical condition

Two people are dead and a third is in critical condition after an early-morning collision in Mississauga, Ont.

Provincial police say it happened shortly before 9 a.m. while a Ford and a Lexus were travelling westbound on a stretch of Highway 401.

Const. Kevin Westhead says the two vehicles collided with each other, which then sent the Ford through the highway median and into the eastbound lanes where it crashed into an oncoming Dodge.

Westhead says a man and a woman travelling in the Ford were pronounced dead, while another man was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He offered no details on the victims ages or identities.

A stretch of 401 is expected to remain closed for much of the day as police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.
