London, Ont. police lay charges after weekend gathering that violated COVID rules

LONDON, Ont. — Police in London, Ont., say they've charged a woman after a weekend gathering that violated COVID-19 rules.

They say officers received a noise complaint on Saturday night and found about 15 people in a home, with none wearing masks.

Police say visitors began leaving through the back of the home while officers spoke with the host of the gathering.

The force says a 20-year-old woman from Toronto has been charged under the Reopening Ontario Act with participating in and hosting an indoor gathering exceeding 10 people.

Police say they are also investigating a separate large gathering in the city that took place this weekend.

Police Chief Steve Williams says individuals hosting and attending large gatherings are putting first responders at risk.
