Man charged in violent kidnapping that left one dead, sent 2 to hospital in Hamilton

Hamilton police have charged a 25-year-old man with first-degree murder in a violent kidnapping that left one man dead and two in hospital.

Investigators say the accused is also charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and kidnapping in the Sept. 16 incident.

Early that morning, police were called to a home in the Mount Hope neighbourhood and learned that 63-year-old Faqir Ali was allegedly kidnapped, and his two adult sons were shot when they tried to protect their father.

One of them, 21-year-old Hasnain "Nano" Ali, died of his injuries, while the other was treated in hospital.

Their father was found hours later, near a lift bridge, and police say he had been severely beaten.

The accused is due in court on Oct. 13.
