Montreal mother accused of murder, attempted murder, after daughters stabbed

MONTREAL — A Montreal mother has been accused of murdering her 11-year-old daughter and attempting to kill the girl's younger sister.

The 34-year-old woman appeared in court from her hospital bed on Monday to be formally charged.

A publication ban is in place preventing media from revealing the name of the accused in order to protect the victims' identities.

The older girl succumbed to her wounds in hospital Sunday after the stabbing Saturday evening, while the five-year old girl is in stable condition.

A spokesman for Montreal police said the children were in critical condition when officers arrived on scene, while their mother was found with upper-body wounds.

The case will return to court on May 13.
