Pedestrian struck, killed along road northwest of Montreal

LACHUTE, Que. — Quebec provincial police say a man was killed Saturday while walking along Highway 158 in Lachute, northwest of Montreal.

Police say the 36-year-old man was struck as he walked along the highway, which is also Principale Street in Lachute, about 6 p.m. on Saturday.

A police spokesman says the victim was hit by a car driven by a man in his 20s.

He was transported to hospital but died of his injuries while the driver of the car was treated for shock.

The maximum speed along that stretch of highway is 70 kilometres per hour.

Crash investigators are trying to determine the circumstances that led to the death.
