Police arrest Hamilton man for alleged hate-motivated assault, threats

Hamilton police say they have arrested and charged a man following an alleged hate-motivated altercation.

Police allege the man had made derogatory statements about a 20-year-old's sexual orientation and chased him with a knife while threatening his life.

They say the 20-year-old was not physically harmed.

The force says the 31-year-old man who was arrested was also in possession of brass knuckles, fentanyl and IDs not in his name.

The Hamilton man faces several charges including assault with a weapon, uttering threats and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Police are asking those with more information about the incident to contact them.
