Toronto police say a 37-year-old man has been charged in the death of his mother, who they allege died after calling first responders seeking help while walking in a west-end park.

They say Kathleen Hatcher of Toronto was located in the trail area of King's Mill Park on Friday morning with significant injuries.

Hatcher was transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Police spokesman Const. Alex Li says Colin Hatcher, the victim's son, is now facing a charge of second-degree murder in the case.

He declined to release the cause of Kathleen Hatcher's death and says the investigation is ongoing.

Li says anyone who may have witnessed the incident, which he says took place along a popular walking route, is being urged to come forward.
