Police watchdog investigating after man dies from window fall in Ottawa

OTTAWA — Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a 23-year-old man fell from an apartment window to his death shortly after Ottawa police officers entered the unit.

The Special Investigations Unit says Ottawa Police Service officers arrived at the apartment building with a search warrant at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The agency alleges the officers "breached the door" of the 12th-floor apartment and the young man fell from the window shortly after.

He died from his injuries at the scene, the agency says.

The civilian agency has assigned three investigators and one forensic investigator. It says a post-mortem was conducted Thursday morning and one witness had been interviewed as of that afternoon.

The scene has been examined and the investigative team is seeking information and video related to the incident.
