Regional police charge doctor with seven counts of sexual assault

KING TOWNSHIP, Ont. — Police north of Toronto have charged a doctor from Richmond Hill, Ont., with seven counts of sexual assault related to alleged incidents spanning nearly a decade.

York Regional Police say the complaints against Dr. Wameed Ateyah, 49, came from two of his patients at a medical clinic in the Township of King.

Police say the two complainants, a 49-year-old and a 28-year-old woman, alleged that they were sexually assaulted by the doctor during medical appointments from 2008 to 2017.

Investigators say they believe Ateyah practised at the Schomberg Medical Centre as well as other clinics in southern Ontario.

They're asking anyone with more information to come forward.
