Woman faces charge of indignity to a body after infant found dead in Gatineau

GATINEAU, Que. — A 26-year-old woman was charged with committing an indignity to a corpse Sunday, the day after an infant was found dead in a Gatineau, Que., apartment.

Gatineau police say they made the discovery around 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say the infant was clearly dead and no resuscitation efforts were possible.

The scene continued to be blocked off by a police perimeter early this afternoon, and an autopsy is scheduled to be conducted in Montreal today.

Gatineau police spokeswoman Renee-Anne St-Amant wouldn't say whether the body showed any signs of violence, citing an ongoing criminal investigation.

The relationship between the accused, the man who called police and the baby has not yet been revealed.
