Updated: 53-year-old woman dies after falling from Bridge of Nations Friday evening

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.

A 53-year-old woman has died after falling from the Bridge of Nations on Paris Street this evening.

Around 5 p.m. on March 19, Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a call regarding a woman in emotional distress on the Bridge of Nations on Paris Street.

Police officers, members of the Emergency Response Unit specializing in Crisis Negotiations, Sudbury Fire and Paramedic Services all attended the scene.

Around 5:40 p.m., the woman fell from the bridge. 

She was rushed to hospital by paramedics. Sadly, she was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

"Our deepest condolences go out her family and friends," Greater Sudbury Police Services said in a press release. 

The woman's name will not be released as police are in the process of notifying her family.

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate prohibiting any further details from being released.
