A Sudbury man who pleaded guilty to badly beating up another man in a hotel washroom last August is headed back to jail in April.

How long a sentence Stewart Enosse, 38, will receive will be decided April 17 when a judge will impose sentence following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

No facts were read in Wednesday, but Enosse pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing bodily harm for beating up the brother of a murder victim in a hotel washroom Aug. 31 last summer.

Following a week-long trial last week, Kenneth MacDonald, 34, of Sudbury, was found guilty of assisting Enosse in beating David Higo.

MacDonald, who has a horrific criminal record, will be sentenced March 6. The Crown will be seeking a penitentiary term for MacDonald, who has almost a dozen convictions for violent assaults and other convictions for armed robbery, assault with a weapon and several for escaping from lawful custody.

Sudbury's Crown's office is considering a special application to have MacDonald designated as a long-time offender, which means police would be allowed to closely monitor him once he's released from jail.

MacDonald was found guilty of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of breach of probation. He was found not guilty of threatening death and theft.

MacDonald has been in custody since his arrest in late August.

Besides pleading guilty to assault causing bodily harm, Enosse pleaded guilty to breaching a court order by consuming alcohol, impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample and common assault. The last four charges relate to a separate incident on Oct. 7.

Enosse is on bail and must continue to adhere to his bail conditions until his sentencing in April.

Higo was taken to hospital following the beating after suffering numerous cuts and bruises and a deep cut to the side of his head which required several stitches to close.

Higo is the brother of Martin Higo, 28, who was beaten to death in an alcove of a downtown Sudbury bar in 1998. No one has been charged in Higo's murder.
