After weekend Sherp rescue, police warn people to use 'extreme caution' on trails

Sherp used to rescue group of stranded ATVers near Capreol Sunday morning

Greater Sudbury Police are warning recreational vehicle users venturing out on area trails right now to “use extreme caution.”

“The warm sun is deteriorating the remaining snow and ice conditions rapidly. #planahead,” police said in a tweet Monday morning.

Early Sunday morning, Greater Sudbury Police worked with a local company, Lopes Limited, to rescue a group of stranded ATVers from a swampy area north of Capreol using a Sherp.

Lopes is the local distributor for the Sherp, a rugged, amphibious ATV designed to traverse any terrain in extreme operational conditions.
