A 28-year-old man faces theft charges after he was arrested Feb. 14 for allegedly stealing alcohol from several LCBO locations in Greater Sudbury, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Police said at around 2 p.m. on Feb. 14, the suspect entered an LCBO in New Sudbury and filled a shopping bag with multiple 40-ounce and 60-ounce bottles of alcohol. He then left the store without paying for the items.

The employee immediately contacted police and officers attended the store. The man was positively identified by members of the Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit as a suspect who was wanted in connection to five additional thefts from LCBOs.

All of the thefts took place in the New Sudbury area between Jan. 30 and Feb. 14.

He was seen getting on a city bus headed for the downtown Transit Centre.

Detectives from the BEAR Unit attended the Transit Centre and arrested the man while he was still in possession of the items he had taken earlier.

He is charged with six counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.

He was scheduled to attend bail court today to answer to these charges.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to all of the community members who provided information related to these incidents,” police said in a news release. “Your assistance is very much appreciated.”
