When you're riding a snowmachine in the remote backcountry, the last thing you want is a problem.

That's the situation a sledder was in on Feb. 16, when the machine he or she was driving (the gender of the person hasn't been released) slammed into the shore of Graveyard Lake late Friday night.

Graveyard Lake is fairly remote. It's in Beaumont Township, about 80 kilometres or so north of the downtown Sudbury as the crow flies.

At around 11:07 p.m. on Feb. 16, officers with the Sudbury OPP as well as EMS were dispatched to the lake after the reporter of a crash.

The driver of the sled suffered what police are calling serious injuries after colliding with the shoreline. The driver had to be airlifted to hospital.

The OPP have not offered any additional information on the state of the driver's injuries or whether charges will be laid.

The incident is still under investigation with the assistance of the OPP Technical Collision Investigation unit (TCI).
