A 21-year-old man faces a number of charges after police say he fled from police on March 18 in a red car, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

This week, police issued an appeal to the public asking for help in locating a red, two-door vehicle that sped dangerously away from police on the Lasalle Boulevard extension. The driver did not stop for police, and was clocked driving at 157 km/h.

“Through the previous media release and social media posts ... the Greater Sudbury Police Service received a large number of tips regarding the licence plate number, the vehicle and the potential driver,” said a news release from police.

Based on information provided by the public, Traffic Management Unit officers located the man's home. When they arrived at the address they saw the vehicle sitting in the yard. Through additional information, and as a result of witness statements and tips, the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident was identified.

He was arrested Thursday morning and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and driving a motor vehicle with no permit. He was scheduled for bail court Thursday morning.
