Greater Sudbury Police have made an arrest after a man was stabbed in an apartment on Melvin Street in the early morning hours of May 3.

On Tuesday, police were called to the apartment in the Donovan neighbourhood after receiving a weapons complaint. When police arrived, they found a man stabbed. The victim was taken to Health Sciences North with non-life threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition, police report.

It didn’t take long, police said, for investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division to reveal the likely culprit.

Police arrested the alleged perpetrator the same day. The 22-year-old appears in bail court today to answer to charges of aggravated assault, failure to comply with a probation order and resisting a peace officer.

Greater Sudbury Police also said the stabbing was not a random act of violence. The victim and the man arrested were known to one another.

“There is no concern for public safety,” GSPS said in a release. “The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigations Division.”
