Greater Sudbury Police officers look over the scene of a shooting on Lloyd Street that sent a man to hospital with serious injuries.

Arrests have been made in the case of a 53-year-old man who was shot on Lloyd Street on Aug. 14.

The man was left with serious injuries following the shooting early Saturday morning. At the time, GSPS alerted the public through a tweet that there was a heavy police presence in the Lloyd Street area, and asked that the public stay away from the area.

The victim appeared to have been targeted, said police, adding they believe the incident was isolated.

Friday morning, Greater Sudbury Police announced arrests had been made in relation to the shooting.

“During the canine search (following the shooting), officers located a bicycle and two firearms in a wooded area,” police said in the Aug. 20 press release.

“One of the firearms was a replica revolver; however the second firearm that was located is believed to be the gun used during the original incident.”

The investigation led detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division to two men believed to be responsible for the attack. On Aug. 18, detectives with Major Crimes located and arrested one of the men at a residence on Holland Road, police said.

Then on Aug. 19, detectives with the Integrated Crime Section located a second man on Lorne Street also believed to be involved in the shooting. The man was taken into custody with the assistance of the GSPS Emergency Response Unit.

A 28-year-old man and a 36-year-old man have each been charged with attempt murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The 53-year-old victim is expected to make a full recovery, GSPS said.
