On Wednesday night, a simple assault complaint called into the Noelville OPP detachment resulted in a French River man facing nine charges, including spousal assault and cruelty to animals.

Unfortunately, OPP could provide few details on what happened after officers arrived at the house.

What is known is that Noelville OPP received a call regarding an assault in French River at 10:45 a.m. on June 5.

Once officers arrived though and began investigating, it appears they discovered a lot more going on than an assault, based on the number and scope of the charges laid.

Now, a 45-year-old French River man is under arrest and stands accused of five counts of spousal assault, one count each of forcible confinement and uttering threats against a spouse, as well as two counts of cruelty to animals.

The man has a a bail hearing today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury.
