A 25-year-old Sudbury man remains in hospital recovering from serious injuries suffered three weeks ago in an unprovoked confrontation downtown.

The victim had spent some time at a downtown bar and was proceeding to another location at Elgin Street at about 1:45 am on Aug. 30 when he was attacked from behind by two males who had followed him from the previous location. He was repeatedly beaten and then pushed down a stairwell, which resulted in serious head injuries as well as lacerations, abrasions and bruising. The two assailants then fled the scene.

Officers from the Greater Sudbury Police Service had identified the two suspects as Sudbury residents.

A 22-year-old Bloor Street resident and a 20-year-old Cochrane Street resident have been arrested. Both have been charged with aggravated assault and breach of probation. Both were on probation at the time for previous assault convictions.
