A Sudbury woman remains in serious, but stable condition in Sudbury Regional Hospital after being savagely attacked by a male acquaintance Sunday in the St. Charles area.

The victim, whose name has not been released, sustained serious life-threatening knife and chainsaw wounds and had to undergo extensive surgery.
According to the OPP, her attacker, Steven Piwtarak, 30, of Sudbury, killed himself after attempting to murder the woman.
Police say Piwtarak died of multiple, self-inflicted stab wounds.
