A 21-year-old ATV driver was injured while trying to flee from police in Webbwood on May 11, said the Ontario Provincial Police.
Officers were conducting patrols on Highway 17 around 8:30 p.m. when they saw the ATV travelling at a high rate of speed. The driver turned onto Mary Street.
Officers tried to stop the ATV, but the driver fled onto side roads.
Just as the officers were about to terminate the pursuit, the ATV hit a bump, the driver lost control and was ejected.
He was treated for minor injuries at the scene. He is charged with failing to apply for a permit on becoming an owner, using unauthorized plates and failing to stop.
The OPP would like to remind riders to always operate your machine in a safe and responsible manner. Inexperienced riders operating a borrowed machine may drive beyond their capabilities with catastrophic results.
Recreational ATVing is meant to be enjoyable, but these machines should never be considered toys. Safety equipment, proper clothing and footwear are recommended and an approved motorcycle helmet is required by law.
