Former Olympic boxer Phil Boudreault has once again used his hands outside of the boxing ring and again he will be losing his freedom because of it.

Boudreault was sentenced to 60 days in jail Thursday after pleading guilty to assaulting a man in April at a downtown Sudbury bar.

Boudreault, a member of an outlaw biker gang, represented Canada at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics.

Boudreault was arrested almost two months ago and had been twice denied bail before making a surprise court appearance Thursday to plead guilty.

A trial on the assault charge had been set for late August.

Boudreault was sentenced to 60 days in jail and placed on probation for 18 months following his release. He was ordered to provide a DNA sample for a national crime data bank and prohibited from owning or possessing any prohibited weapon for five years.

Court heard that on April 10, Boudreault approached a group of men at a downtown bar and punched one man with a closed fist after the man made a comment about Boudreault?s girlfriend.

The victim was knocked out and required stitches to close a head wound.

Police looked for Boudreault for several weeks following the incident and he was arrested on May 16 at a residence in Webbwood, near Espanola.

Boudreault had been out of trouble with the law for almost two years before this latest incident.

He had spent several months in jail on numerous assault charges and other criminal convictions in the three years following the 1996 Olympics.
