A Sudbury man who was scheduled to be released soon on parole from a federal penitentiary for the brutal 1998 rape of a former girlfriend, will remain behind bars for many more months after being sentenced last week to two years for sexually molesting a young girl.

Marc Teahan, 37, was found guilty by Justice Louise Gauthier of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice following a one-day trial.

The evidence presented by the Crown was strong and there was no doubt in her mind Teahan was guilty of sexual assault, touching a female minor for a sexual purpose and inviting a female under age 14 to touch him, said Gauthier.

Gauthier ordered a publication ban on any evidence that could reveal the identity of the complainant.

Besides a two-year penitentiary term, Gauthier prohibited Teahan from owning or possessing any prohibited weapon, ammunition or explosives for 10 years and ordered him to provide a DNA sample for a national crime data bank.

The complainant testified she was alone with Teahan on numerous occasions between the beginning of the school year in September of 2000 and the first week of October.

Teahan asked her to strip down to her underwear on numerous occasions telling her it was a normal thing to do, touched her breasts, rubbed her in a sexual manner and invited her to touch him, she testified.

Teahan denied having any sexual contact with the girl.

At the time of the incidents, Teahan was free from jail while appealing his 1999 conviction for sexual assault.

In that case Justice Frank Caputo said he didn't believe any of the testimony provided by Teahan, but believed the complainant was the victim of what he called a brutal rape.

The attack was not only a vicious sexual assault, but one with extreme violence and there was intent to "degrade, humiliate and punish" his victim, said Caputo.

Teahan testified the woman agreed to consensual sex and there wasn't any forced sex at any time.
