A Sudbury man who has never obtained a driver?s license was involved in a head-on collision after driving in the wrong direction on Sudbury?s busiest street late last September.

Logan Eshawkogan, 23, pleaded guilty to careless driving Wednesday.

Court heard Eshawkogan was driving and had three passengers in his vehicle around 7 am last Sept. 24 when he made a left hand turn from Second Avenue onto The Kingsway.

However, instead of turning into the proper lane, Eshawkogan turned directly into oncoming traffic going the other way and within seconds was involved in a head-on collision.

The other driver and all four people in the Eshawkogan vehicle were sent to hospital, but fortunately no one was seriously hurt.

Defence counsel Alex Toffoli said a police report indicated the weather was terrible that morning with heavy rain and low visibility and an officer concurred the bad weather likely contributed to the accused turning into the wrong lane. His client has no previous criminal record and works full-time on Manitoulin Island.

Toffoli asked the court to impose only a $500 fine and no driver?s licence suspension. Justice William Fitzgerald agreed to the fine, but imposed a three-month license suspension against Eshawkogan.
