The Nipissing West OPP have confirmed the body found near Tilton Lake Road in Greater Sudbury last week is that of 40-year-old missing woman Amanda Oake of Val Caron.

The OPP did not provide any information about the cause of Oake’s death, but said the investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch.

Oake’s body was found Dec. 8, and a post-mortem was conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Sudbury Dec. 14.

A missing person’s report about Oake put out by Greater Sudbury Police Dec. 7 said she had last been seen Nov. 28.

Greater Sudbury Police also put out a press release about Oake’s death this afternoon with much the same information as the OPP, although GSPS said the woman’s body was found in a wooded area off of Wavy Lake Road.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Amanda,” the Greater Sudbury Police press release said.

The woman’s mother, Brenda Oake, announced her daughter’s death on Facebook on Tuesday.

“As Amanda's mother, my heart is broken!” she wrote. “I have to say Amanda has been found, but not the way we wanted. She has left us to be in the Spirit World. We wait for answers pending further investigations. If you have any leads or tips, please contact police.”

Oake’s obituary said she will be missed by her partner Ron, her parents Brenda and Leon, three children, two grandchildren and extended family.

“Amanda has gained her wings and will join many loved ones as she rests in peace,” the obituary said. “At this time the family would like to thank all those who have reached out with your kind words and support to help us through this very difficult time.”

A funeral for Oake takes place at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home Friday.

Police are asking anyone who may have information regarding Oake’s death to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
