Greater Sudbury Police are continuing their investigation into a big brawl outside the pub at Cambrian College Thursday night, where one victim told police he was struck with the butt of a handgun.

A brawl broke out at Rafters Pub located at Cambrian College.
Police were called to Rafters Pub around 10:45 pm after a large number of people were involved in a brawl outside the pub.

Police attended the scene and found several people fighting. One victim of an assault claimed an unknown suspect had struck him with a handgun.

Several people involved in the brawl received minor injuries and were treated and released from St. Joseph?s Health Centre.

Staff Sgt. David Bedard said, that as of late Friday afternoon, the only person to claim a handgun may have been involved, was the victim.

?The only person who claims to have seen a gun was the victim, but he insists he was hit by a handgun and we?re investigating the matter,? said Bedard.

?Obviously, this was a pretty serious incident as several people were involved in a big fight and things got out of hand...that?s why we?re asking witnesses to come forward.?

An employee at Rafters Pub, who did not want to be identified, said there have been very few incidents of violence at Rafters? Pub in the time he?s
worked there.

?This is the first incident we?ve had in more than two years,? he said.

The same employee told Northern Life ?he had a tough time believing? there was a handgun involved in the incident. Another source told Northern Life he was a regular visitor to the Cambrian pub and said it has a reputation of being a laid back place with few incidents of violence or rowdy behaviour.

Pub manager Mario Larose was off work Friday and could not be reached for comment.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the disturbance or may have information to contact investigating officers at 675-9171, ext. 6397.
