May is only half over but it’s already been a busy month for the foot and bicycle officers who patrol downtown as part of the Central Community Response Unit.

From May 9-13, 2025, GSPS said officers on bicycles executed 18 arrest warrants downtown and seized close  to $8,000 of suspected fentanyl and cocaine.

On May 9, officers located a wanted person on Larch Street, who is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and fraud under $5,000.

“Upon searching the individual incident to arrest, officers located 25.8 grams of what is believed to be fentanyl,” GSPS said in a news release.

The 40-year-old man subsequently picked up an additional charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I substance. The man was released on an undertaking with a court date of June 11.

The next day, CRU officers located and arrested a person on Elgin Street who was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant for failing to comply with their probation.

“Upon searching the individual incident to arrest, officers located 37 grams of fentanyl and close to 17 grams of cocaine, as well as $1,690 in cash,” GSPS said.

The 33-year-old man is now facing additional charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I substance (x2). The man had a May 11 bail hearing and was remanded into custody.

Then, on May 12, downtown officers located a stolen TREK bicycle valued at $5,000 in the area of Elm Street and Durham Street. The bike was returned to its owner.

“We encourage bike owners to register with 529 Garage though our website. Registering your bike is free and it ensures that law enforcement, insurance companies and the community have the information required to help recover a  lost/stolen bike,” GSPS said.
