A Calgary, Alta. man has been charged for allegedly stealing from a Lacoste Road residence in Markstay-Warren the same night police say he was involved in an impaired-related crash.

Nipissing West OPP officers were dispatched to the Lacoste Road residence at 6:55 p.m. on Sept. 23 in regards to a reported theft.

That same evening at 11:08 p.m., Nipissing West OPP officers, Nipissing Paramedic Services and West Nipissing Fire Service responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 in the West Nipissing area.

“The driver was transported to the local hospital by Nipissing Paramedic Services with non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

OPP said the driver was arrested for impaired driving. The man refused to provide a breath sample, police said.

As a result of the theft investigation, OPP have charged a 37-year-old Alberta resident with one count of theft under $5,000 (shoplifting). He has a Nov. 2 court date in Sudbury.

As a result of the impaired investigation, the same Calgary resident was charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in West Nipissing on Nov. 3.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
