Update: Highway 17 collision leads to fatality

No charges will be laid after 81-year-old woman succumbs to injuries

The Sudbury OPP has confirmed that an 81-year-old woman died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 on Oct. 1.

At around 12:50 p.m. on Oct. 1, members of the Sudbury Detachment of The Ontario Provincial Police, the Sudbury Fire Department as well as the Sudbury-Manitoulin District Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, Wahnapitae, Ontario.

The OPP said the driver of a Toyota Corolla pulled onto Highway 17 from a private drive at 12:49 p.m., and the vehicle was struck in the eastbound lane by a GMS Cutaway van.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla, 81-year-old Milja Leduc from Wahnapitae, Ontario has died as a result of her injuries.

No charges will be laid in relation to this incident.

The driver of a Toyota Corolla received serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Wahnapitae Oct. 1.

The OPP said the driver pulled onto Highway 17 from a private drive at 12:49 p.m., and the vehicle was struck in the eastbound lane by a GMS Cutaway van.

The driver of the Corolla was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The highway was closed intermittently for a police investigation, reopening fully at 6 p.m.

The investigation is still ongoing and charges are pending, say police.
