Charges pending after man killed in Falconbridge Road collision

Greater Sudbury Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed an accident Saturday that claimed the life of a man to come forward. The collision occurred on Falconbridge Road near the entrance to the Cedar Green Golf Course about 8:50 pm Saturday.

The collision involved a blue Honda Civic traveling from Garson towards the city and a grey Honda Accord traveling from the city towards Garson.

An initial police investigation has revealed that through the straight stretch of the road between Cedar Green and Donelly Street, the Civic crossed over the centre line and collided with the oncoming vehicle.

Both lone occupants were extricated from their vehicles and transported to St. Joseph's Health Centre, where the operator of the Accord succumbed to his injuries.

Police have identified the driver of the Civic as Michael Whone, 22.

The driver of the Accord has been identified at Barry Green, 56.

Police say the accident remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Falconbridge Road was shut down for several hours as a result of the accident.
