The Nipissing West OPP has released the name of the man killed in an Aug. 23 single-vehicle crash on Hwy. 144.

The driver has been identified as Ali Alwazzan, 39, of Scarborough.

The crash occurred north of the Windy Lake Motel and south of Cartier.

Alwazzan was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have been able to locate his next of kin.

The investigation is still ongoing as to the cause of the collision, and further information will be released as it becomes available.

The highway was fully reopened as of 6:30 p.m., according to the OPP.

The OPP say a single-vehicle collision on Highway 144 this morning was fatal.

Provincial police say officers with the Nipissing West OPP were advised at 10:14 a.m. Monday morning of the fatal single motor vehicle collision on Highway 144, north of Windy Lake Motel and south of Cartier, in the District of Sudbury.

The highway will be closed in both directions until the investigation is completed, and motorists are advised to use Highway 7044 (Old Cartier Road) as a detour.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased’s name is not being released until the next of kin is notified.

Members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (T.I.M.E.) attended to process the scene. The investigation is still ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.

The OPP has released more information about the Highway 144 collision via Twitter.

Officers are currently at the scene of the single motor vehicle collision, which is north of the Windy Lake Motel and south of Cartier. 

Motorists are advised to use Highway 7044 (Old Cartier Road) as a detour.
