Collision on Big Nickel Mine Road, police re-routing traffic

Greater Sudbury Police Service has released the results of its investigation into a crash at the intersection of Big Nickel Mine Road and Elm Street on Sept. 5.
Greater Sudbury Police Service has released the results of its investigation into a crash at the intersection of Big Nickel Mine Road and Elm Street on Sept. 5.

The investigation found the driver of a car failed to stop at a red light while travelling on Elm Street into the city from the Azilda area. The car struck a cement truck that was turning left off Big Nickel Mine Road.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and were evaluated at HSN. The investigation continues by a member of the Traffic Management Unit.

Officers with Greater Sudbury Police Service are currently investigating a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Elm Street and Big Nickel Mine Road.

All traffic northbound on Big Nickel Mine Road is being rerouted eastbound on Elm Street. All traffic heading eastbound into the city from the Rayside area is being re-routed south onto Big Nickel Mine Road.

Traffic headed westbound on Elm Street out of the city is reduced to one lane.

Motorists are urged to exercise patience and to consider alternate routes.

An update will be sent out once the intersection is cleared for traffic.
