Elliot Lake woman faces charges after elderly man found living in 'deplorable' conditions: OPP

After an almost year-long investigation, members of the East Algoma OPP have charged a woman for a range of abuse of an elderly man, and warn there may be more victims.

Police began investigating a complaint in July 2017 related to deplorable living conditions of an elderly man in Elliot Lake.

“The investigation determined that numerous legal documents had been forged and a substantial amount of money stolen from the victim,” police said in a news release.

On June 13, 68-year-old Gisele Davis from Elliot Lake  was arrested and charged with the following offences:

- Fail to Provide Necessaries of Life, contrary to section 215(2)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC).

- Criminal Breach of Trust, contrary to section 336 of the CC.

- Theft Over $5000, contrary to section 334(a) of the CC.

- Theft Under $5000 (14 counts), contrary to section 334(b) of the CC.

- Fraud Under $5000 (14 counts), contrary to section 380(1)(b) of the CC.

- Make Forged Document (14 counts), contrary to section 367 of the CC.

- Use, Deals, Acts on Forged Document (14 counts), contrary to section 368(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on July 3.

“The OPP believes there may be more victims in the area,” the release said. “If you have any information please contact the East Algoma Detachment at 1-888-310-1122 or your nearest police authority.”

The East Algoma OPP Crime Unit, Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO), and uniform members under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Matthews, of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) conducted the investigation.
