Update: Police will not release name of victim of deadly crash

At the wishes of the family of a woman who died in a collision on Garson-Coniston Road on March 8, her name will not be released by police.

"We always respect the next-of-kin's wishes, and they do not wish to have her name released," said GSPS spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn.

The names of the three people injured in the collision will not be released either, as the investigation into the collision is ongoing.

"Once the investigation is concluded we will issue a release (as to whether or not charges have been laid)," said Dunn.

Updated at 1:43 p.m.: Greater Sudbury Police have re-opened the Garson-Coniston Road following a deadly crash early this morning.

The roadway was closed before 8 a.m. due to a two-vehicle crash that left one person dead and left three others with minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the crash. The name of the victim has not been released.

Updated at 9:57 a.m.: Greater Sudbury Police say the Garson-Coniston Road will be closed for approximately six hours today as they investigate a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of one person this morning.

Drivers will need to find alternate routes to their destinations while police investigate the cause of the deadly crash, which occurred before 8 a.m. today.

Updated at 9:26 a.m.: Greater Sudbury Police are reporting that one person has died as a result of a collision on the Garson-Coniston Road earlier this morning.

The crash occurred before 8 a.m. today. Police couldn't provide an exact location of the crash, but spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn did say it happened closer to Highway 17, on the Coniston end of the road.

Four people were involved in the crash. Three were transported to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. The fourth person was pronounced dead.*

The Garson-Coniston Road will likely remain closed for several hours as police investigate the incident, Dunn said, so drivers should avoid the area.

Garson-Coniston Road is closed at this hour following a two-vehicle collision about 35 minutes ago.

Police, fire and EMS were called to the scene of the collision.

Four people have been sent to hospital, but there's no word on the extent of their injuries.
