Crash on Hwy. 144 north of Cartier results in impaired charges

An Elliot Lake man is facing impaired driving charges after a single-vehicle collision on Highway 144 Feb. 11.

The Nipissing West OPP say they responded to the collision in Dublin Township (north of Cartier) in the Sudbury District at 2:57 p.m.

During the investigation it was determined that the driver was impaired, the press release said. The driver was arrested and transported to the Nipissing West (Sudbury) OPP Detachment for further testing.

The 34-year-old man was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC; and
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section, 320.13(1) of the CC.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in Sudbury court March 3.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

This incident marks the 11th driver charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2021.
