An 81-year-old Elliot Lake woman has died as a result of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Nairn Centre Jan. 5.

The victim has been identified as Hyi-Ja Lee. She was transported by ambulance to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. A male passenger also received non life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The crash occurred at around 11:40 a.m. Preliminary investigation reveals the vehicle was travelling eastbound on Highway 17, when it lost control, causing it to leave the roadway and hit a rock face, say the Sudbury OPP.

The investigation is ongoing.

Updated at 1:03 p.m.: The OPP have released more information about the crash on Highway 17 near Espanola.

EMS is on route to the scene now. It is a single-vehicle collision in McKerrow between Sand Bay Road and Jacklin Road.

The Ontario Provincial Police and emergency crews are on the scene of a crash on Highway 17 near Espanola.

Little information has been released about the collision, which occurred sometime after 12:30 p.m., a tweet from the OPP says.

The crash happened on Highway 17 between Sand Bay Road and Jacklin Road.

At the moment, the westbound lanes are blocked while crews are on the scene.
