Greater Sudbury Police have charged a 34-year-old man in connection to 41 fraud and theft related charges, including identity theft.

In May and June of 2016, GSPS received a number of complaints from Sudbury residents, reporting that credit cards and identification had been stolen from a workout facility at a local educational institution.

The Community Safety Personnel team out of the Police and Community Response Centre, worked to collect evidence, identifying a suspect and linking a number of unsolved, recent and past incidents dating back to 2011.

The suspect used a number of stolen credit cards to make numerous purchases and cash withdrawals within Greater Sudbury.

In some instances, the suspect impersonated the account holder and was successful in changing the credit card’s PIN to gain access to the bank accounts.

Greater Sudbury Police remind citizens to be mindful of your belongings when they are out of your line of sight.

Use a lock, leave credit and debit cards in your vehicle or at home, or if you have the ability to keep them on you, do so, in order to best protect yourself and your identity.
