A Sudbury Rainbow Crimestoppers tip helped Greater Sudbury Police track down a man wanted on numerous break and enters and other crimes dating back more than four years ago.

A resident reported that Rene Gladu, 40, was visiting his parents on New YearÂ?s Eve and police ended up stopping a van driven by Gladu and they arrested him for driving while his driverÂ?s licence was suspended and numerour property crimes dating back to 1997 and 1998.

Gladu, who was facing 19 charges, pleaded guilty Thursday to two break and enters, one on June 5, 1998 and the other on August 15, 1998, and writing a bad cheque on Dec. 23, 1997. He also pleaded guilty to failing to appear in court on these charges on Nov. 23, 1998.

Court heard Gladu took off for Alberta rather than stay in Sudbury to face his charges.

Defence counsel Victor Vere asked that a pre-sentence report be prepared before Gladu is sentenced.

Justice Randall Lalande ordered the pre-sentence report. A date for sentencing sometime in late August will be set next Wednesday.

Gladu had his bail conditions altered Thursday so he can work in Wawa over the next several weeks.

Court heard Gladu, who has a history of property offences, wrote a cheque for just under $500 to buy some cowboy boots and a leather jacket in late 1997. Gladu was contacted by the store owner and told his cheque had bounced and Gladu assured the owner heÂ?d pay his bill, but never did. The business in question no longer exists.

In one of the break and enters, both which took place in Val Caron, Gladu used crowbars to gain entry and disabled an alarm system, causing $800 in damage, before stealing $850 in jewelry.

Greater Sudbury Police arrived on the scene and arrested Glaud inside the home.

Six weeks later, Gladu also used crowbars to gain entry into another home when an off-duty police officer noticed a suspicious male leaving the residence.

He approached Gladu, but Gladu jumped in his car and escaped. Officers went to a nearby home which had been broken into and an investigation revealed Gladu was the lone male responsible for the break and enter.

The Crown is expected to ask for a jail sentence of one year when the sentencing hearing takes place.

Vere is expected to ask for a conditional sentence to be served in the community.
