The Crown is expected to wrap up its case this week in the trial against a Sudbury man charged in relation to a boating fatality on Ramsey Lake two years ago.

Michael Christakos, 41, has pleaded not guilty to seven charges in relation to a collision on June 21, 2003 that claimed the life of Samuele Pisani, 23, who was a passenger on a boat being driven by Christakos.

Christakos is facing charges including criminal negligence causing death, impaired driving causing death, two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, dangerous driving, having more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

On Tuesday, the only witness was Michael Vollmer, a professional engineer and boating safety expert who is an inspector with the International Marine Certification Institute.

Vollmer answered questions about boating safety and how high speed boats react under certain conditions.

Jeff Fuller, who drove the boat that collided with Christakos' boat, was expected to be a Crown witness Wednesday.

The trial has already heard testimony from Fuller's wife, Melissa.

Keaney is expected to begin his defense Thursday or Friday and the case is expected to wrap up by the middle of next week.
