If you see a heavy presence of police and other emergency officials this morning in the New Sudbury area, don’t be alarmed: it’s not an actual emergency.

Today, Greater Sudbury Police Service is training in collaboration with the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts, Greater Sudbury Fire Services, Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services and CN Police.

The training is a search and rescue scenario involving a vulnerable person with dementia who has become lost in the area of Lasalle Boulevard and Notre Dame Avenue.

“There will be an increased number of emergency services personnel in the area and you may see the Mobile Command Unit set up on Lasalle. Please do not be alarmed,” police said in a Facebook post this morning. “This is a training scenario and an important opportunity to work together with our community partners to ensure the effective and efficient deployment of resources.”
