A 54-year-old Dowling man is facing impaired driving charges after crashing his pickup truck into a ditch in the Markstay-Warren area Oct. 6.

The Nipissing West OPP say they responded to the single-vehicle collision on Highway 17, east of Sutcliffe Road, at 11:45 p.m. that night.

The officers’ investigation revealed the pick-up truck left the roadway and came to rest on its side, in the ditch. The lone occupant was not injured. Police say the driver had consumed alcohol.

The driver was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC); and
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 Plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC.

The accused was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Sudbury court Nov. 25.

He was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

This charge marks the 50th driver charged under Criminal Impaired Driving Laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2020.
