A 45-year-old driver from Woodstock has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act after a wheel separated from a commercial vehicle on Highway 69 on March 1, said provincial police.

The vehicle’s “dangerous” condition resulted in a charge of wheel separation - commercial motor vehicle. The driver is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

“The OPP wants to remind drivers, especially those operating commercial motor vehicles (CMV), to ensure daily inspections are completed,” said the OPP in a news release. “The safety of everyone on the road depends on it. The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe CMV drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads. The OPP will continue to work with CMV drivers to aim to reduce the number of CMV-related collisions that result in deaths and injuries on OPP-patrolled roads.”

Anyone who observes a driving or equipment related safety issue involving a CMV while traveling on a highway, should contact the OPP by dialing 911 to help prevent any collision that may result in death or injuries.
