Driver from Atikameksheng Anishnawbek charged with impaired

A 54-year-old man from Atikameksheng Anishnawbek has been charged with impaired driving after officers responded to a disabled motor vehicle on Blackwater Lake, said provincial police.

Officers responded on May 1 at 1:24 p.m. It was determined the driver had signs of impairment and was arrested. He was taken to the Sudbury OPP detachment for further testing. 

He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court May 26. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 45 days.

This incident marks the 21st driver charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2021.
