A 42-year-old Sudbury resident has been charged after not only leaving the scene of a single-vehicle collision on Highway 144, but getting a ride with someone with whom they were legally not supposed to be communicating.

At around 2:20 p.m. Jan. 15, the Nipissing West (Sudbury) Detachment of the OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 144, in an Unincorporated Township, north of Sudbury.

Police located the vehicle in the ditch, with no occupants around. The driver had obtained a ride back to their residence from an individual in which they had a previous release condition, not to communicate with.

No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.

The driver was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to comply with release order
  • Careless driving
  • Fail to remain
  • Fail to report accident

The accused was held for Bail Court and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in January 2025, in Sudbury.
